Japan: more sales data for Week 46, Pokémon Sun and Moon, more (Dengeki)

Media Create

Since Media Create shared more data than expected this week, we made a separate post: click here to check it out!

Dengeki

Earlier this week, several trackers shared data for Pokémon Sun and Moon during the first three days:

  • Famitsu = 1 905 107 units (retail + download cards + dual-pack counted as two units)
  • Media Create = 1 590 629 units (retail) + 151 379 units (dual-pack, counted as one unit), 1 893 387 units (dual-pack counted as two units)

But what about Dengeki? Well, here’s the data they shared:

  • Pokémon Sun: 827 429 units
  • Pokémon Moon: 788 113 units
  • Dual-pack: 295 480 units (147 740 units, but counted as 2 units)
  • Total: 1 911 022

Unfortunately, for Dengeki (just like for Famitsu), Pokémon Sun and Moon is slightly down from Pokémon X and Y (that sold 2.04 million units during its opening week-end). It’s significantly up from Pokémon Ruby Omega / Alpha Sapphire, though (it sold 1.50 million units at launch). Media Create is the only tracker with sales up from Pokémon X and Y (with double-packs counted as 2 units).

Despite that, Pokémon Sun and Moon is off to a great start for Dengeki, who reports a 85% sell-through for the game (the dual-pack basically sold out). Based on how previous Pokémon games have sold (45% of total sales during launch week), they expect this entry to end up selling around 3.91 units. Holiday and New Year sales will be key, and will give us a good indication of where total sales will end up.

Hardware-wise, the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon had a strong impact on both Hardware and Software:

  • Hardware: 148 000 units (+13.7%)
  • Software: 2.143 million units (+359.8%)

For the Nintendo 3DS, the two New Nintendo 3DS XL models launched alongside the game boosted sales to 81 000 units (all Nintendo 3DS models combined, x3.9 from last week sales). The Nintendo 2DS also got its own Pokémon model, which boosted sales, so if you add it, you get +99 000 units (x3.4) for Nintendo 3DS sales.

Also, Dengeki notes that total Software sales topped 2 million units for the first time in 23 months, since the December 8th 2014 week. That being said, 90% of those sales are just for Pokémon Sun and Moon… talk about market domination!

Finally, here’s the sales data for individual versions of Yo-kai Watch 3, and Puzzle & Dragons X:

Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi – 2 150 units this week, 651 264 units since launch;
Yo-kai Watch 3: Tempura – 1 944 units this week, 616 876 units since launch;
Puzzle & Dragons X: Ryuu no Shou – 1 222 units this week, 105 815 units since launch;
Puzzle & Dragons X: Ryuu no Shou – 1 189 units this week, 105 776 units since launch.
