Japan: more sales data for Week 30 2019, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, July 2019 (Media Create, Dengeki)

Here’s the latest sales data reports from Media Create, and Dengeki!

Media Create – Day 1 Sell-through (Week 31)

Unfortunately, no sell-through data this week!

Dengeki (Week 30)

Dengeki report that Fire Emblem: Three Houses (the first Fire Emblem entry on a home console since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, 12 years ago) is off to a great start with about 163 000 units sold. The sell-through is also pretty good: 80%, which shows that retailers were able to accurately gauge demand.

Here’s how the previous entries on home consoles fared:

  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GameCube): 98 000 units at launch, and 169 000 units LTD
  • Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii): 89 000 units at launch, and 183 000 units LTD

Tsuri Spirits Nintendo Switch Version is also off to a good start, with 57 000 units sold. Sell-through is pretty good: 70%, which shows that retailers were also able to accurately gauge demand for this title.

Rune Factory 4 Special also did pretty well for a HD remaster, with 38 000 units sold at launch. As for Tokyo 2020 Olympics The Official Video Game, it had a more muted debut with 13 000 units sold on the two platforms it was released on (with the Nintendo Switch selling 8 123 units alone). Finally, Pio Fore no Banshou -ricordo- is off to a surprisingly good start for a port, with 8 000 units sold.

Here’s some more sales data for new releases:

  • Psikyo SHOOTING LIBRARY Vol.1 (City Connection): 3 486 units sold. A fairly solid performance for a collection of retro games already available on the Nintendo eShop;
  • Kill la Kill -IF- (Arc System Works): 3 308 units sold (6 508 units for the PlayStation 4 version). A pretty poor performance.

This week, Dengeki shared some more data for July 2019 (the full month this time), and more precisely the period going from July 1st to July 28th (so 4 weeks in total). As expected, the market is still in a pretty poor shape despite sales increasing:

  • Hardware: 280 000 units (-12.7%) / 8.5 billion Yen (-8.7%)
  • Software: 1 600 000 units (+20.4%) / 10.4 billion Yen (+27.4%)
  • Total: 18.9 billion Yen (+27.4%)

Dengeki point out that it’s the first time in 4 months that monthly sales are up Year on Year, which is definitely a positive sign. But despite that increase, the market remains quite sluggish: it’s the second year in a row that total sales for July fell below the 20 billion Yen threshold.

Here’s the Top 3 Software for July 2019:
