Japan: Famitsu sales for September 2021 (Software, Hardware, Publishers)
Famitsu have shared their latest monthly report on video game sales in Japan, this time covering September 2021 (to be more precise, the period going from August 30th to September 26th, so 4 weeks in total).
WarioWare: Get It Together! is off to a strong start with 126 317 units sold during its launch month. If the game does become an evergreen title and keeps on selling in the long run, it should have no trouble selling over 500 000 units LTD (including digital sales).
For once, the rest of the Top 5 Software is not made of the usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch, due to new releases on PlayStation consoles. That being said, Ring Fit Adventure was still able to get a spot in the Top 5 with 54 511 units sold!
September saw the release of quite a few games: 6 of the titles in the Top 10 are brand new! Dragon Ball Z Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set is one of them, and it ranked #8.
Here’s the Top 5 Software for September 2021:
01./00. [PS4] Tales of Arise # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Entertainment) {2021.09.09} (¥7.980) – 199.668 / NEW
02./00. [NSW] WarioWare: Get It Together! <ETC> (Nintendo) {2021.09.10} (¥4.980) – 126.317 / NEW

Due to the new releases on PlayStation consoles, the Nintendo Switch is not the platform with the most games in the Top 5 for once; it has to share the top spot with the PlayStation 4!
NSW – 2
PS4 – 2
PS5 – 1
Despite the lack of new releases, Nintendo was once more the most successful publisher in Japan with 494 000 units sold. Most of those sales come from WarioWare: Get It Together and the usual evergreen titles.
Bandai-Namco did manage to sell 339 000 units in September, mostly thanks to Tales of Arise. Finally, SEGA is the 3rd most successful publisher with 180 000 units sold, mostly thanks to Lost Judgement.
- Nintendo: 494 000 units sold
- Bandai-Namco: 339 000 units sold
- SEGA: 180 000 units sold
Hardware-wise, September was a rather quiet month in general, but especially for the Nintendo Switch which sold only 214 421 units (in comparison, 361 151 units were sold in August). Such a drop was expected, what with the end of the Summer holiday season, the lack of major hit to sustain sales even during a slow period (September is hardly the best month for sales!), and the upcoming OLED model.
That being said, the Nintendo Switch did manage to reach the latest milestone during that month: it’s now sold over 21 million units since launch!
