Famitsu – December 2016 (November 28th to December 25th)
Despite launching in November, Pokémon Sun and Moon also topped sales in December in Japan, with over 918 000 units sold. As far as new releases go, we have Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS at #3, with 743 388 units. If it had been released one week earlier, it would most definitely have outsold Final Fantasy XV. Finally, we have Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki at #4 with over 500 000 units sold.

Software-wise, Nintendo was the most popular publisher… and that’s without Pokémon Sun and Moon (published by The Pokémon Company in Japan). Nintendo games sold 1 482 000, with almost half coming from ever-green titles.
Nintendo – 1.482.000
Square Enix – 982.000
Pokemon Co. – 929.000
Hardware-wise, the Nintendo 3DS was the most popular platform with almost 500 000 units sold, which is almost as much as last year during the same period. For the Wii U, the drop is really dramatic, with only 21 914 units… as opposed to 253 209 units in December 2015!
