[Japan] Famitsu sales for August 2024 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for August 2024 in Japan (July 29th to August 25th, so 4 weeks in total).

Top 5 Software

For the second month in a row, POWER PROS 2024-2025 was the best-selling game in Japan with over 60,000 units sold at retail alone on Nintendo Switch. The two versions combined have now sold around 336.000 units: a strong performance that surpasses that of the previous entry (eBASEBALL Powerful Pro Yakyuu, released in April 2022), which sold around 259.000 units during a similar timeframe.

As for Nintendo Switch Sports, it makes a comeback in the Top 5 Software with nearly 40,000 units sold. It’s been enjoying strong and steady sales since launch, but it looks like the addition of Basketball back in July provided a noticeable boost in sales (it jumped from #15 to #3).

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher with around 425.000 units sold (roughly the same as in July 2024). Due to a lack of new releases (Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club came out on August 29th, and is therefore not included in Famitsu’s tracking period for August), the vast majority of those sales come from the usual evergreen titles (who saw a healthy boost thanks to the Summer holidays).

Konami is, once again, #2 with 119.000 units sold. Like in July, most of its sales come from the latest entry in the POWER PROS series.

Finally, Bandai-Namco is #3 with about 80.000 units sold (a noticeable increase from the 62.000 units sold in July). That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles provided a good chunk of those sales (over 23.000 units sold on Nintendo Switch alone).

  1. Nintendo: 425.000
  2. Konami: 119.000
  3. Bandai-Namco: 80.000

Hardware

Hardware-wise, Nintendo Switch sales were again fairly stable with around 228,000 units sold. The aging console definitely has a lot of fuel left in its tank, and with the Summer holidays in full swing, it’s not too surprising sales were fairly strong in August.

  1. Nintendo Switch: 227.913 (July 2024: 229.316)
  2. PlayStation 5: 104.178 (July 2024: 123.087)
