Japan: more data for Week 35 (Media Create/Dengeki)

Media Create

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 35. During that week, a total of 271 000 units were sold for Software, which amounts to 70.11% of Week 34 sales. It’s the first time since July that total Software sales dropped below the 300 000 units threshold in Japan.

If you look at sales for new and already released games, you can clearly see where the drop comes from:

  • Already released: 97.11% of Week 34 sales (256 000 units)
  • New releases 12.49% of Week 34 sales (15 000 units)

It’s pretty clear that drop in sales is mostly due to the lack of compelling new releases.

Dengeki

Dengeki shared sales data for the individual versions of Yo-kai Watch 3 and Puzzle & Dragons X:

  • Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi – 14 383 units (578 998 in total)
  • Yo-kai Watch 3: Tempura – 13 522 units (546 314 in total)
  • Puzzle & Dragons X: God Chapter – 4 151 units (82 063 in total)
  • Puzzle & Dragons X: Dragon Chapter – 4 130 units (80 236 in total)

There’s also some global data for the week:

  • Hardware: 41 000 units (-7.2% compared to the previous week)
  • Software: 274 000 units (-30.4% compared to the previous week)

Overall, Week 35 was a pretty weak week, and there’s no doubt Week 36 will be even worse: there isn’t any noteworthy releases, after all. It’s possible Week 36 will be the worst week ever for Software (since we started getting data, obviously), which was ~235 000 units in Week 20, 2015 (Media Create data).
