Europe: video games sales for Week 30 (UK) / Week 29 (France)

United Kingdom (Week 30)

A few days ago, Gfk Chart-Track revealed (via MCV UK) that the release of Pokémon GO was having a very positive impact on sales for Pokémon games on Nintendo 3DS. And it looks that that impact didn’t wane during Week 30, as shown with the latest data from Gfk Chart-Track.

Here’s how the various Pokémon games have been performing:

  • Pokémon Alpha Sapphire: +8 places (from #19 to #11), and the best-seller on Nintendo 3DS
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby: +1 place (from #16 to #15)
  • Pokémon X: +15 places (from #35 to #20)
  • Pokémon Y: – 1 place (from #22 to #22)

But while sales of Pokémon games have been either steady or on the rise, the same cannot be said of Monster Hunter Generations. After two good weeks, the game dropped hard during Week 30, and lost 14 places at once (it’s now #18). It’s going to remain in the Top 40 for at least a couple of additional weeks, but it doesn’t bode well for sales on the long run…

As for New Super Mario Bros. 2, it only lost 1 place this week. It looks like the positive impact on Pokémon GO on Nintendo 3DS hardware can still be felt. Right now, it’s still the best-selling Nintendo 3DS model, and the 4th most popular console, on Amazon.co.uk. It looks like this is the model players trying to buy a Nintendo 3DS end up buying (because it’s not only cheap, it also comes with a free game).

Tomodachi Life also remains quite popular, and only lost 4 places this week (it’s now #25).

Next, we have a couple of Wii U games, which are still hanging around in the Top 40 :

  • Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics is now #27 (#28 last week), and the best-seller on Wii U;
  • Minecraft: Wii U Edition is now #28 (#25 last week), and still selling better than the PlayStation 4 version.

Finally, we have Yo-kai Watch at #36 (3 places lost): it’s still holding nicely, but there’s no telling when it’s going to leave the Top 40 again.

France (Week 29)

After a Monster debut, Monster Hunter Generations gets a Monster second week! The game landed at #1 during launch week, and it didn’t budge a bit during the second one… it’s still #1! Unfortunately, we don’t have any concrete sales data, so we don’t know how much of that is due to the usual slow sales of the Summer holidays… Naturally, Monster Hunter Generations is the best-selling title on Nintendo 3DS.

Also, Yo-kai Watch is back in the Top 5 at #3, which shows that just like in Spain, its sales are pretty steady in France too. Unfortunately, we dont have any proper sales data for that game either…

On Wii U, the best-seller is Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
