Denpa Ningen no RPG Free!: over 2.2 million downloads, major update coming next week

It’s been a little while since we last heard about Denpa Ningen no RPG Free!, the Free 2 Play entry in the Denpa Men series. And yet, the developers from Genius Sonority are still working on the game, providing new content on a regular basis: there’s even a major update coming out next week!

It’s been almost a year since the game came out in Japan (on July 23rd, 2014), and since then, it has been downloaded over 2.2 million times. As usual, we don’t get any data about microtransactions (the sole source of revenue for a F2P without ads), but since Genius Sonority has been working on the game for so long, that means it is profitable enough for the company.

The new update (Ver. 1.8) announced today is kind of like an anniversary celebration… two weeks early! This update is quite substantial, as it will add:

– one new main stage, but also several extra stages (with really powerful monsters from previous stages)
– monsters companions: you will be able to add some monsters to your party, and they will accompany you during your adventures (of course, they fight alongside your Denpa Men). There’s over 40 of them in total, and they each have their own characteristics. There’s various types for the monsters, such as Dragon Type or Ghost Type, for example.

The update will also comes with various fixes and changes, such as:

– upper limit for stamina will be increased, and will go further than 100;
– before each stage, you will be able to see the recommended level (for your Denpa Men) and monsters to tackle it;
– the “Get Stages” will now be available for full week (instead of a single day), and there will be more than one stage available each day.
– Coliseum Prizes: now, there will be several potential prizes, and the one you get will be chosen via lottery.

Of course, the developers recommend the update be downloaded as soon as possible. They also warn of upcoming maintenance for the game, which will impact two services:

WiFi Coliseum server

– Japan: July 7th (12AM) to July 8th (11AM)
– Europe: July 6th (5PM) to July 8th (4AM)
– UK: July 6th (4PM) to July 8th (3AM)
– North America (EDT): July 6th (11AM) to July 7th (10PM)
– North America (PDT): July 6th (8AM) to July 7th (7PM)

Check-in server

– Japan: July 7th (11.50PM) to July 8th (11AM)
– Europe: July 7th (4.50PM) to July 8th (4AM)
– UK: July 7th (3.50PM) to July 8th (3AM)
– North America (EDT): July 7th (10.50AM) to July 7th (10PM)
– North America (PDT): July 7th (7.50AM) to July 7th (7PM)

NB: the game is only available in Japan, and no western release has been confirmed. This maintenance is only for players in Japan, or fans who have imported a Japanese Nintendo 3DS.
