Nintendo’s first mobile games will all be F2P, Miitomo to get new features after launch

MiitomoDuring the presentation of DeNA’s latest financial results, Isao Moriyasu (CEO) clarified something rather important regarding Nintendo’s first mobile games: they will all be Free 2 Start, not just Miitomo. There was some speculation in the past few days/weeks, about the monetization of those titles, but thanks to Isao Moriyasu, there isn’t place for doubt anymore: money will come from microtransactions.

Nintendo plans to release at least 5 mobile games by the end of March 2017, but unfortunately, Isao Moriyasu didn’t tell how many of them were currently in development. However, he did give an additional tidbit regarding Miitomo, and confirmed that the communication app would get feature updates after launch.

Now this may seem overly obviously, but this implies that Nintendo and DeNA will not simply add new games and cosmetic items to Miitomo,it will also get brand new features. In order to keep users interested, frequent updates are quite simply crucial for a Free 2 Start application, so this is definitely a very positive sign for Miitomo, which will not simply be a mere communication tool.

Finally, here’s some slides (in English) from the DeNA financial results presentation. There is nothing really new in there, but they still make for an interesting read:

Miitomo (Mobile) will be launched in March 2016.
