Daily news (October 22): Darksiders Genesis / Earthbound

Today’s Daily news: release date for Darksiders Genesis, but also…

  • Earthbound
  • Mario Kart Tour

Darksiders Genesis

THQ Nordic have announced that Darksiders Genesis will be released on all consoles (including the Nintendo Switch) on February 14th in Europe and North America. They also revealed a brand new trailer for the game, alongside some more details, and the list of key features:

Darksiders Genesis features the debut of the fourth and final horsemen – STRIFE – who can battle alongside his brother and fellow horsemen WAR in the first ever Darksiders two-player co-op mode. Solo players will be able to alternate between STRIFE and WAR on the fly, taking advantage of STRIFE’s ranged and WAR’s melee style attacks. Both characters can build up a special attack meter that, when activated, temporarily turns them into a colossal creature that leaves epic destruction in its wake.

Darksiders Genesis is an action/adventure that tears its way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on its way to Hell and back with guns blazing and swords swinging. Genesis gives players their first look at the world of Darksiders before the events of the original game, as well as introduces the horseman Strife.

  • Blast angels and demons as the gunslinging Horseman Strife, playable for the first time
  • Swap between the powerful swordsman War and Strife instantly in frenetic, single-player gameplay
  • Explore the epic world of Darksiders and wreak havoc with a friend in two-player cooperative mode
  • Experience a brand new story campaign that takes place before the original Darksiders, exploring the origin of the Seven Seals
  • Grow in strength and power as you collect items, abilities, weapon enhancements, creature cores and more

Darksiders Genesis (Switch) comes out on February 14th in Europe and North America, and later in Japan. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!

Earthbound

On the official website of Hobonichi (Shigesato Itoi’s company), a special interview/discussion called GameCenter CX Hobonichi Techo was posted, about EarthBound (in order to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the series):

Shinya Arino, one half of the comedy duo Yoiko, stars in the variety show GameCenter CX (Fuji TV ONE) where he takes on various video game challenges. The show, which debuted 16 years ago, centers around a fictional game development company where Arino, the manager (“Arino Kacho”), plays through retro video games. We were approached by the show to make a Custom Edition Hobonichi Techo Weeks, and just as it was released Arino played through Shigesato Itoi’s game Mother 2 (released in North America as EarthBound). Itoi came to visit Arino Kacho in the Challenge Room while he made his way through the game. They talked about their memories of the game on the 30th anniversary of the original Mother title.
