Dai Gyakuten Saiban: promo video, some details about Barok van Zeiks, more

Dai Gyakuten Saiban

Promo Video

A few weeks ago, Capcom did a special “Mall Tour” across Japan, stopping at some major cities such as Osaka and Tokyo. During each stop, various games by Capcom were playable, including Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouke. And As mentionned before, some special “skits” were prepared as “greetings” for the visitors.

Today, Capcom has finally started uploading them on YouTube, with the Hokkaido video going first:

Barok van Zieks

Last week, Capcom revealed another character video for Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken, this time introducing Barok van Zieks. He’s the main prosecutor in the game, and Naruhodou Ryuunosuke will have to battle with him in court. He’s known as the “Death God” of The Old Bailey, which is the Central Criminal Court of England.

Apparently, that image comes from the fact that nobody manages to keep standing after facing him in court. At the time, the judicial system in the West was seen as the best in the world (especially the one in London), so they gave this Prosecutor a dark image, to “compensate” for all that “brightness”. After all, where there’s light, there’s always darkness.

The Ace Attorney series has seen various prosecutors across the titles, but Barok van Zieks is the first one where the team started by creating the background of the character before anything else. As far as his design is concerned, the idea was obviously to give him a dark image. He also has some “fierce” animations, which are quite intimidating for poor Naruhodou Ryuunosuke…

Shu Takumi

We finally know who’s the mystery author Shu Takumi met during his promotion tour for Dai Gaykuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke…. it’s Ayatsuji Yukito (who wrote “The Decagon House Murders” and “Another”). Apparently, their discussion will soon be published in Yasei Jidai (an entertainement magazine) and the official website.

On Thursday, Shu Takumi did a “debug” run of SCRAP’s Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken real-life escape game (in Tokyo). The team showed the Opening and Ending movie, and it was pretty well received. They worked pretty hard on this, so Shu Takumi hopes fans will go and try out the game. It will start in two weeks, but the rehearsals will continue until Day 1.

And on Friday, he met with the Ayatsuji Yukito. Shu Takumi has been mainly reading mystery novels from foreign authors, but Ayatsuji Yukito is the “tremendous presence” who showed him that there also was gifted authors in Japan.

He then reminisced about his college days, when he got to experience the “New Orthodox” of mystery fiction as it happened, with authors such as Shimada, Ayatsuji (the “face” of the movement), Arisugawa, Abiko and Norizuki.

Ayatsuji Yukito actually got to play Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken in front of Shu Takumi, who was probably as nervous as Naruhodou Ryuunosuke himself! Apparently, Ayatsuji Yukito knows a bit of magic, and performed a few tricks during their meeting. Shu Takumi also admits he’s bit worried that nothing he said could actually be used for an article…

But all in all, this was a pretty positive experience for him… he even got an autograph!

He also went and check out if Thursday really was the birthday of Tsuta Kenjirou (Barok van Ziek’s voice actor), and he found out they were of the same age! He was a bit surprised by that, and now he feels some affinity with him. He simply loves his deep, rich way to speak.

Shu Takumi also mentionned a Capcom Special Selection for Ghost Trick (and several other games), which includes the game + a soundtrack CD + a booklet, available now on e-Capcom. If you don’t know what Ghost Trick is, then you should definitely try it out on Nintendo DS (or iOS)!

Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken (3DS) comes out on July 9th in Japan.
