Cave Story+: Nintendo Switch version releasing on June 20th in North America

Nicalis certainly seems to be one of the strongest supporter of the Nintendo Switch: they released The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ last month in North America (at retail, not just on the Nintendo eShop), and they have several more on the way (including Redout, a futuristic racer). Back in January, Nicalis teased a few upcoming titles, including a fan favorite: Cave Story.

And today, the company formally announced Cave Story+ (published AND developed by Nicalis), which will be released on June 20th in North America. Once again, the game will be available both at retail and on the Nintendo eShop, for the same price: $29.99.

Nicalis introduces Cave Story+ on Nintendo Switch as THE definitive version. According to the press release, it will feature new challenges, gameplay options, and various enhancements. More specifically, the company mentions additional levels (tied to the story) and “subtle graphic improvements”, but also free content updates, and a few bonuses (to be revealed at a later date).

One of the content updates will bring local multiplayer (by the end of Summer), with the second player controlling Curly. As far as music goes, Cave Story+ will include three soundtracks: the original, the remastered one, and the one from Cave Story 3D.

And here’s the pre-order bonus at GameStop: some blind box PVC keychains!

Cave Story+ (Switch) will be released on June 20th in North America. Nicalis hasn’t announced a European release yet. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
