Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker headed to the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS

Super Mario 3D World featured some special levels where players controlled not Mario, but Captain Toad. Since he cannot jump, those levels were more like puzzle than actual platforming, and offered a fresh experience in-between the traditional levels of the game. Nintendo then took those levels and actually made a full game with them, expanding on the concept… that’s Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker!

Since then, many fans have been hoping for a new Captain Toad to be released, and their wish is about to come true… sort of! During the Nintendo Direct, yesterday, Nintendo announced that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was headed to both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS. Yes, we’re talking about a port of the Wii U game, not a brand new entry.

The good news is that even though this is a port, those new versions of the game will also feature some brand-new content: namely, courses based on the various Kingdoms from Super Mario Odyssey. There’s also some platform-exclusive features:

  • Nintendo Switch: you can play with a friend or family member with just one Joy-Con each. One player controls Captain Toad, the other can assist by throwing turnips, and more;
  • Nintendo 3DS: stereoscopic 3D display, and touch screen controls.

Finally, here’s the segment from the Nintendo Direct, as well as some screenshots:
