[Brief] Miitomo: fix for Error 801-9999

MiitomoMiitomo came out last week in Japan, and it was a surprisingly smooth launch without any major issues. The biggest one was caused by some Twitter profiles with too many followers/follows and/or an animated GIF as avatar, which would make the app freeze/crash, but this has already been fixed with an update (Ver. 1.0.2).

And today, the official Twitter account for Miitomo posted two messages about an error some users have been encountering: 801-9999. Because of this error, some users have been unable to launch the app. Fortunately, there is a very quick and easy fix: clearing the cache. Here’s how you do it:

  • iOS: OS Settings > Miitomo > set Clear Cache Next Launch on On
  • Android: OS Settings > Apps > Storage > Clear cache

We don’t know if Nintendo will push an update to make sure users do not encounter the error anymore (and to further optimise the app, which does tend to use quite a lot of battery).

Miitomo (Android / iOS) will be launched later this month in Europe and North America.
