Bayonetta 3 to be released on October 28th (with Limited Edition); stand-alone retail release for Bayonetta on September 30th

It’s back in December 2017 that Nintendo first announced Bayonetta 3 for Nintendo Switch, and it took nearly 4 years for the game to resurface during the Nintendo Direct in September 2021. That’s quite the long wait for fans of the series, but the good news is that said wait is almost over: Nintendo have just announced that Bayonetta 3 will be released on October 28th worldwide!

Here’s the second trailer for the game (with both English and Japanese voice overs):

Also, PlatinumGames have revealed that Bayonetta 3 will feature a special mode called Naive Angel Mode. It’s some sort of glorified censoring option that allows you to “hide” the naughtiest bits of the game. For example, in a scene where Bayonetta appears nearly naked, she will instead be wearing more “appropriate” clothes. It’s pretty handy when you don’t want your parents/partners/local pastor to find out what kind of game Bayonetta 3 truly is!

Here’s a video showcasing Naive Angel Mode:

And here’s some more details and screenshots for the game:

In this third installment of the Bayonetta series, the unstoppable Umbra Witch must join forces with some familiar faces, the mysterious Viola and a multitude of other Bayonettas to stop human-made Homunculi from wreaking havoc.

In the game, you’ll make use of Bayonetta’s wicked weapons and powerful new Demon Masquerade ability to blast, stomp and slam enemies with exciting over-the-top combos and demonic powers. Prove you’re the baddest witch around by battling an evil that’s bent on plunging humanity into the depths of chaos.

In Bayonetta3, the titular witch will face new, mysterious enemies called Homunculi. This army of creatures appear to be man-made bioweapons, hell-bent on destruction. A diabolically good time awaits you with the new Demon Slave ability! With it, Bayonetta can summon demons in- and outside of battle and manipulate them as she pleases for some hair-raising action!

Wait, is that…two Bayonettas? The dress may be different, but the face of this mysterious witch sure looks familiar.

Viola, a fresh-faced witch, is a new playable character in Bayonetta3! Armed with a sword and with the capricious feline companion Cheshire by her side, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Old favourites will also make a return! Look forward to once again crossing paths with Jeanne, Rodin, Enzo and Luka!

·   A Bounty of Bayonettas: Meet a veritable coven of Bayonettas, each more fabulous than the last, while fighting through the streets of Tokyo, the mountains of China and beyond! Along the way, find out if this arcane alliance can really save humanity and what fate awaits this bunch of Bayonettas.
·   Rough Up Rivals as Viola: In addition to Bayonetta, players will also control the feisty witch-in-training Viola, who is ready to unleash hell on the Homunculi with her sword and her capricious companion, the feline demon Cheshire.

Alongside the retail and digital versions (now available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop), Bayonetta 3 will also be available in a Limited Edition called Trinity Masquerade Edition (available via select retailers and the MyNintendo Store). It costs 9 878 Yen, and includes the following:

  • a copy of Bayonetta 3 (physical, though the MyNintendo Store in Japan does offer a version with a digital copy of the game for 9 800 Yen)
  • a full-color 200-page art book
  • display the whole Bayonetta trilogy with three reversible game cases, one for each title, that combine to form stunning panoramic artwork

And that’s not all! Nintendo have also announced that the first Bayonetta game is getting a stand-alone retail release worldwide on September 30th (price: $29.99). This is great news for those who really wanted a physical copy of the game, as until now, the only way to get such a version was to buy the (extremely) limited bundle with both Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2, released a couple of years ago exclusively in Japan.

Bayonetta 3 (Switch) comes out on October 28th worldwide.
