E3 2015: SEGA will not have a booth this year

E3 is by far the biggest video game-related event each year, which is why most of the big publishers are present with their own booth (and their own conference, for the biggest ones). This year, SEGA is one of the publishers attending E3, but the company will not have its own booth this time around.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that SEGA will not be at E3 period: a spoke-person has confirmed that the company will instead collaborate with various business partners. What this means is that we’re likely to see some SEGA games at other booths (such as Nintendo’s for example).

There’s two main reasons SEGA decided not to have a booth this year at E3:

– SEGA of America is currently focusing on the recently-announced restructure and relocation to Southern California (following a radical change in its strategy, with a focus on mobile and digital downloads);
– the majority of SEGA’s big titles will launch later in 2015-2016, and SEGA of America will focus on those afters its relocation.

Finally, booth space at E3 certainly isn’t cheap, and SEGA not in the best financial situation, so it’s not too much of a surprise to see the company going with partners instead.
