Nintendo Switch: a few details from the FCC filing (5Ghz Wifi, non-removable battery)

Remember the mysterious “Wireless Gaming Device” we heard about a few days ago, with the HAC-016 model number? Well, it turns out it might very well be one of the two Joycon controllers. Documents from the FCC filing show that there’s two such devices, with the following model numbers: HAC-015 and HAC-016.

Speaking of model numbers, the main unit for the Nintendo Switch is HAC-001, with HAC-002 being for the AC Adapter, and HAC-008 for game cartridges. Wondering what HAC-002 to HAC-007 and HAC-009 to HAC-014? If you thought “Well, one of them has to be the cradle!”… you’re wrong, as that’s apparently HAT-003.

The documents reveal that the Nintendo Switch has both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi (both SISO and MIMO), and 802.11b, g, n, and ac modes. The documents also mention the Wii Lan Adapter, which suggests that the Nintendo Switch can be used with it. There doesn’t seem to be a SIM card slot, so no 3G/4G connection.

We also learn that the battery will not be removable, unlike the GamePad’s (which means it will not be possible to use a battery with a higher capacity, or even simply change the one that comes with the console).

About the AC Adapter mentioned above:

  • AC Adapter input: AC 100 – 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz, 1 A
  • AC Adapter output: DC 5 V – DC 15 V, 2.6 A (maximum total power draw = 39W)

Finally, the documents confirm that the Nintendo Switch will have Blutooth (including a low energy mode), though it’s not clear if it’s used for anything else than the controllers.

So, there you are: some neat details about the Nintendo Switch, though nothing really surprising!

The Nintendo Switch will be released in March worldwide.
