Pokémon Sun and Moon: biggest launch ever for Nintendo in the UK

Last week, Pokémon Sun and Moon was released in Europe (5 days after Japan and North America), and we also got the first sales data for the game (and more precisely from Japan). Nintendo still hasn’t shared any global data (all we know is that 10 million units were shipped for launch, worldwide), but we finally have data for a country not called Japan: the United Kingdom.

According to GFK Chart-track, Pokémon Sun and Moon sold more during its launch week than any other Pokémon game before… or any other Nintendo game, period. That’s right: it was the biggest launch of all time for Nintendo in the United Kingdom.

Eurogamer reports that Pokémon Sun and Moon sold more in 5 days than Wii Fit did during its first two weeks (about 305 000 units). It also sold twice as much as Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire did at launch in 2014.

In other words: Pokémon Sun and Moon is off to a great start in at least two countries (Japan and the United Kingdom), and there’s no doubt it was also the case pretty much everywhere else. Unlike Japan, where sales ranged from slightly better than Pokémon X and Y to slighly worse (depending on the tracker), it looks like western sales saw a significant increased compared to the previous mainly entry.
