Yo-kai Watch anime series

Yesterday, the official Twitter account for the Yo-kai Watch series announced that the second season of the Yo-kai Watch anime series would debut on August 1st.

This second season of the anime series will feature 50 episodes (as opposed to 25 for the first one), including some new mini-adventures (such as those with Detective Komasan). It’s (very loosely) based on the second Yo-kai Watch game, and 90 brand new Yo-kai will be introduced.

At the same time, the Yo-kai Watch Zero Model will be released, along with new medals.

Yo-kai Watch movie

Back in December, it was announced that a third Yo-kai Watch movie would debut this Winter in Japan. And last week, in its latest issue, CoroCoro magazine revealed that the movie would be called Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Sekai no Dai Bouken da Nyan (lit. The Flying Whale and the Grand Adventure of the Double Worlds, Meow!). It will open on December 17th in Japan, during the same week as the other two movies.

As revealed by Akihiro Hino a few days ago, this movie will have both animated and live-action segments (due to filming for a full-CG or live-action requiring too much time). During the live-action segments, Keita Amano / Nate Adams will be played by Ryouka Minamide. A brand new Yo-kai will be introduced in this movie: Koalanyan (another Jibanyan variant), which is apparently key to the movie’s plot.

Pre-purchase for tickets will start on July 16th, and fans who purchase one will receive a Jibanyan Real Version Yo-kai Dream Medal, compatible with Yo-kai Watch 3 (releasing on the same day).

TV Tokyo sales

For the Fiscal Year 2015-16 (which ended on March 31st, 2016), the TV Tokyo Group saw its sales and profits thanks to the popularity of its anime franchises. Here’s the raw data:

  • Sales: 14.423 billion Yen ($134.774 million), + 74.4% YoY, 10% of the worth of the TV Tokyo Group
  • Gross profits: 4.889 billion Yen ($45.684 million), +102.0% YoY, ~70% of total operating profits.

It looks like children shows made up a large part of total sales, with franchises such as Youkai Watch, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokémon. Last year, Yo-kai Watch was only #4, but it’s #2 this year. Now that the anime series has launched in both North America and Europe, the company expects sales to increase even more in the future.

Top Five in Sales:

  1. Naruto
  2. Youkai Watch
  3. Gintama
  4. Yu-Gi-Oh!
  5. Pokémon

Top Five in Gross Profits:

  • Youkai Watch
  • Naruto
  • Pokémon
  • Gintama
  • Yu-Gi-Oh!
