UK: video game sales for April 2016
While March 2016 was a pretty good month for the video game market in the United Kingdom, the same cannot be said about April. Just like in the United States, there was no momentum, and sales dropped sharply during that month. A total of 1 000 445 units were sold, which is a drop of 24.72% compared to last year. Those sales generated £30.7 million in revenue, which is a drop of 20.88% compared to the same month in 2015.
If March was a bad month for Nintendo, April wasn’t that much better. This time around, the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Software did manage to sell 100 000 units… combined. Sales of Nintendo 3DS games topped 53 000 units, which is a drop of 39.55% units compared to the same month last year. Sales of Wii U are actually up, with 47 021 units sold (+14.14%).
No doubt the release of Star Fox Zero had a positive impact on sales (despite the mixed reception), not to mention Pokkén Tournament and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. But as mentioned last month, it’s not like Wii U Software sales were impressive to begin with… quite the opposite.
Nintendo did manage to get two exclusives in the Top 40: Star Fox Zero at #22, and Pokkén Tournament at #39. Unfortunately, there isn’t a single Nintendo 3DS in the Top 40 at all…
