Super Mario Maker: 3.2 million courses created, details about the Famitsu DLC

Super Mario MakerA few weeks ago, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Maker had sold over 1 million units worldwide, and that over 2.2 million courses had been created by players from all around the world. Today, Famitsu revealed that the number of courses uploaded is now over 3.2 million, which is an increase of 1 million in less than a month!

But that’s not all: in its usual weekly preview, Famitsu gave more details about the “Famitsu DLC” for Super Mario Maker, which was announced a couple of weeks ago. Pretty soon, Japanese players will be able to get Nekki (the Famitsu mascot), but in order to unlock it, they will first need to beat a special level made by the Famitsu staff.

Four staff members from Famitsu (including the Chief Editor) made a level for Super Mario Maker, and to decide which one will be distributed to players, they held a “reverse cross-review” with four developers from Nintendo (similar to the usual cross-reviews of games found in each issue of the magazine). The course that gets the best score will then be distributed.

The Nintendo staff taking part in this “reverse cross-review” are:

  • Takashi Tezuka (Producer)
  • Yusuke Yoshino (Director)
  • Yoshikazu Yamashita (Senior Director)
  • Yamamura (the pigeon from the Nintendo News webzine)

Unfortunately, we still don’t know when the stage and the character will be distributed, and if players from outside Japan will also get them (which also applies to the GameCenter CX and Mario-kun DLC).

Here’s the preview from Famitsu magazine:

Finally, here’s a video from Nintendo UK, showcasing a level by Image & Form (developers of the SteamWorld series):
