Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories – Developer Diary #1

A few months ago, Natsume announced Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, the second entry in their own Harvest Moon series (separate from the original, now called Story of Seasons in the West). Unfortunately, we still know next to nothing about the game itself, and unfortunately, the first developer diary doesn’t allow us to learn much more (it’s more an announcement for the developer diary itself).

Harvest Moon: Seeds of MemoriesIn this post, Taka Maekawa (Producer) talks about the first time he played a game from the Harvest Moon series, on the SNES. It’s the simple actions such as farming, foraging, fishing, mining and interacting with the townspeople which really hooked him, and it’s the kind of experience he wants players to enjoy in Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories (presented as a “return to the fundamentals of the series”).

He explains that the goal of the game will be to “build a successful life for yourself”. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to become rich by selling your produce, or live a comfortable family life, you will be able to do both (and at the same time).

Whether that means a life with tons of money by raising crops and caring for animals, or a life with family and friends, or ultimately both of those, it is completely up to the player.  However, the simple tasks of growing crops, caring for animals, making friends, and enjoying nature around you will give players a sense of accomplishment as hours fly by

Finally, Taka Maekawa explains that he wants to keep it simple with Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, instead focusing on the simple details that have been lost or forgotten. His goal is to have players experience the same feeling he felt so many years ago, playing his first Harvest Moon game on the SNES. He also promises some nice surprises for long time fans of the franchise!

Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories (Wii U eShop) should come out this Winter, in Europe and North America. More details will be revealed soon, via another Developer Diary post.
