Zelda Wii U: Eiji Aonuma talks briefly about the game in Famitsu

As mentioned on Tuesday, the latest issue of Famitsu magazine features an interview with Eiji Aonuma (and Sano Tomi, assistant director of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD). Said interview does mention the latest The Legend of Zelda game (coming to Wii U), and provides us with something significantly more substantial than the last time Famitsu got to interview Eiji Aonuma. Thanks to Kotaku, we finally have a translation.

2643971-wiiu_zelda_scrn04_e3Eiji Aonuma explains that he’s currently pretty busy, as he’s currently working on characters’s dialogue and in-game text. It was also like that when The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was in the final stages of development. He reveals that the game has “really taken shape”, which is why things have gotten significantly easier according to him. For him, it’s the sign that development is progressing well.

After that, he talks about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and how he thinks it’s been the base of their “secret sauce”. It’s true that this particular game has been a major milestone for the Zelda series, and that Nintendo has relied on its formula for a while now. But Zelda Wii U will be different according to Eiji Aonuma, who uses a food anology to explain himself:

But this time, the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food. Perhaps, players will be surprised.

Eiji Aonuma really hopes that players are looking forward to The Legend of Zelda Wii U, as he believes they (the developers) will be able to make “something new”, like Ocarina of Time.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U should be released this year, worldwide.
