[Update] Youkai Watch: Viz Media to launch the manga this September in NA, along toys and anime

A small update: VIZ Media revealed the cover of the very first volume, which can be found just below. As for the name of the protagonist, it will be “Nathan Adams”

Little by little, we get more and more information about the western launch of the Youkai Watch franchise. First, Dentsu Entertainement announced that it had licenced the Youkai Watch for the Americas (Viz Media will distribute it in Europe). Hasbro then announced that it would launch the first Youkai Watch toys in 2016. And today, we finally get some news about… the manga.

Viz Media announced today that the Youkai Watch manga would be launched this September in North America, under the Perfect Square imprint (for kids-oriented properties). Apparently, the company is aiming for monthly releases, exclusively in print format.

But for players, the most important part of this announcement is the following statement made by the company: the launch of the manga will be coordinated with the launch of the anime and the toys (which comes as a surprise, considering Hasbro clearly said the first line of toys would be launched in 2016).

From the looks of it, we’re looking at a global launch for the Youkai Watch series… but we still have absolutely no information about the games themselves. A september/october seems likely for them, but Level-5 is yet to make an announcement.

The Youkai Watch franchise should be launched this year in the West.
