Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Some more details (new content and features, more)

Following the reveal of the second trailer yesterday, Nintendo has shared some additional details for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. This time, the focus is on the story, new features, and more.

But first, some details about the story. For those unfamiliar with the game, Xenoblade Chronicles X takes place on Planet Mira. Humanity ended up there after fleeing Earth, which was caught in a devastating battle between two alien powers.

Survivors went onboard massive spaceships and fled the planet. After journeying through space, one of them (the White Whale) ended up crashing on Planet Mira. And in the process, some Lifeholds (pods-like cryogenic devices that were used to transport humans) were scattered around Mira. BLADE is an organisation tasked with exploring Mira in order to locate and recover those Lifehold units. The protagonist is a member of that organisation.

While exploring Mira, you will get to place probes at various spots. Said probes gather information about their surroundings, and allow you to complete your map. Also, after progressing through the story, you will unlock Skells: mechs that will allow you to explore more of Planet Mira.

If you’re not sure where to go, you can use the Follow Ball: this handy item will guide you to your destination (when you get a quest for example). And in this version of the game, it can also be used to find items required to complete quests!

Another new feature is something called Quick Recast. What it does is reduce the cooldown timer for Arts, making it easier for you to answer the calls of party members, broadening the scope of battles in the process. However, it’s not something you can use at will: there’s a green gauge under the Art Palette (to the right), and using Quick Recast depletes it.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition also introduce a new Skell: Hraesvelg, which is equipped with a katana and large propulsion engines. In the trailer, you can also see its unique flight form. The pilot of that Skell is a rather peculiar individual who appears to be an ally, cooperating with BLADE and the protagonist. They wear a rather bizarre mask.

The Ganglion is one of the two alien forces that forced humanity to flee Earth. Those ferocious aliens chase humans all the way to Planet Mira, and there, they attack New Los Angeles, hell bent on eradicating them for good.

Next up: Neil Nail, a brand new character first introduced in the second trailer. She’s seen with two rather strange Skells, and it’s not clear how she’s related to them.

Finally, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features brand new story content: an epilogue which takes place in a continent floating high up in the sky. What awaits you in this brand new region? You will have to wait a little bit more to find out!

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition (Switch) comes out on March 20th worldwide!
