Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap – Details on soundtrack, samples, more

On Monday, Lizardcube posted a blog post about the Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap soundtrack, and revealed that right now, they could not do a standalone release due to licencing rights. However, the team is still working on finding a solution to allow that soundtrack to be released.

The game features 30 music tracks, based on the original compositions by Shinichi Sakamoto, with unique variations for each dungeon and dragon (not to mention extra tracks for the hospital, gallery, etc.). Michael Geyre (the composer) has been working on creating a clean, stand-alone soundtrack with a proper ending section (as opposed to the in-game tracks, looping indefinitively).

Here’s the tentative tracklist for that soundtrack album:

  • 01 – Title Screen
  • 02 – Intro
  • 03 – The Last Dungeon
  • 04 – Vs. Dragon Meka
  • 05 – And now
  • 06 – Monster-Town
  • 07 – It’s a Treasure Box
  • 08 – Shop
  • 09 – Hospital
  • 10 – Mind of Hero
  • 11 – Desert Zone
  • 12 – The Monster’s Lair – Pyramid
  • 13 – Vs. Dragon Mummy
  • 14 – Adventure Zone
  • 15 – The Monster’s Lair – Tower
  • 16 – Monsterland
  • 17 – Vs. Dragon Zombie
  • 18 – The Monster’s Lair – Sunken Ship
  • 19 – Vs. Dragon Captain
  • 20 – Daimyo Garden
  • 21 – The Monster’s Lair – Daimyo Temple
  • 22 – Vs. Dragon Daimyo
  • 23 – The Monster’s Lair – Palace Part 1
  • 24 – The Monster’s Lair – Palace Part 2
  • 25 – Vs. Dragon Vampire
  • 26 – Endless War
  • 27 – The Dragon’s Trap – Staff Roll
  • 28 – Get Item
  • 29 – Gallery
  • 30 – Bonus Track

And here’s two soundtrack samples for those who are yet to play the game (or those who have but just want to listen to those two particular tracks again):
