Super Mario Maker: update and web portal to go live on December 22nd

Super Mario MakerSuper Mario Maker – Latest update

On December 22nd, a brand new update for Super Mario Maker will go live. It will add the following elements:

  • by shaking a grinder, you will be able to get a (really bouncy) bumper;
  • by shaking a door, you will be able to get a P-door. They can only be opened by activating a nearby P-switch;
  • if you shake the Clown Car, you will get the Fire Clown Car. The difference? It can shoot fire, which means you can (in theory) turns one of your levels into a shoot ’em up level. You can even charge your fireballs, and the super fireballs you can shoot that way can destroy blocks.

There will be another change: for each level, you will be able to see who cleared it first, as well as the world record time.

Head after the break for the rest of this post!

During the Nintendo Direct in November, Nintendo annouced that a web portal would be launched sometime in December. It will allow players to easily find new levels, from their PC or smartphone/tablet. This Bookmark Web Portal will be launched on December 22nd, at the same time as the latest Software update for Super Mario Maker (which is required to use the Bookmark feature in-game).

There will be three ways to search for courses:

  • random selection of popular courses
  • course rankings
  • course search (you can search using custom conditions)

If you use a Nintendo Network ID, you will be able to add bookmarks, and then easily find the bookmarked levels in the game. Super Mario Maker will also have a link to the web portal in-game: clicking on it will open the web browser, but you will then be able to start playing right away (without having to use a bookmark first).

The latest update for Super Mario Maker and the Super Mario Maker Bookmark Web Portal will both go live on December 22nd, worldwide.
