Splatoon: new update releasing next week (Ver. 2.9.0), changelog, download size

Splatoon 1Next week, Nintendo is going to release some new amiibo figures for Splatoon, including two for the Squid Sisters (Marie and Callie). If you can those two in-game, you can get some bonus content (as detailed in this post), but naturally, you will first need to download the latest Software update for the game.

This update will be released next week, on Wednesday morning (Tuesday evening for North American players on the West coast), following some maintenance for online services. It will not just add amiibo functionality: it will also bring various bug fixes and game balance improvements, among other things.

Here’s the full changelog for this new update for Splatoon:

Compatible amiibo Added

  • Now compatible with Callie and Marie amiibo.

Main Weapon Balancing

  • Adjustments have been made to specifications for certain Main Wepons.

Special Weapon Effect Duration Balancing

  • Adjustments have been made to specifications for certain Special Weapon Effects.

Stage Adjustments

  • Ancho-V Games: Fixed an issue in Rainmaker mode, in which certain terrain wasn’t appearing correctly on the turf map when inked.

Multiplayer Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused players performing a Super Jump while swimming through ink to appear to be sliding long distances to opponents.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Ink Mines placed on enemy turf to occasionally be visible byopponents, whether or not they had the Bomb Sniffer gear ability.

Other

  • Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

This update will require:

  • 373MB of free space on your Wii U or external HDD if you already have Ver. 2.8.0 installed
  • up to 839MB of free space on your Wii U or external HDD if you have a previous version of Splatoon installed

To download this new update, you have two options:

  • let the Wii U do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated. You should have the latest version of Splatoon installed the next time you turn on your console;
  • if not, you can launch Splatoon from the Home Menu (not the Quick Start Menu!) in order to trigger the download manually.

To check that you have the latest version of Splatoon, simply launch the game: you should see Ver. 2.9.0 at the top right corner of the screen.
