Splatoon: new map to be added later this week (Mahi-Mahi Resort)

When Nintendo detailed the next major Software update for Splatoon, during the Nintendo Direct in November, they revealed that it would have enough new content (maps and weapons) for Splatoon to last at least until January. In other words, weekly unlocks of new weapons and maps are going to continue for quite a while, so don’t players always have something fresh to play.

Splatoon 1Since the Ver. 2.0.0 update, new additions have been taking place only once a week (on Saturday morning / Friday evening, most of the time). But it looks like Nintendo has gone back to two content updates per week since last week, though we don’t know how long it will last… as long as possible, hopefully!

Today, during the Nintendo Treehouse Splatournament, Nintendo announced that a new map would be added later this week: Mahi-Mahi Resort. It’s one of the two new maps showcased during the Nintendo Direct, last month, and it’s most likely one of the most deadly for Inklings. Indeed…. there’s water everywhere! But water isn’t just a danger, it’s also one of the key elements of the map.

During the last minute of the match, the water recedes, opening up quite a lot of turf to ink. In other words: the outcome of the match will remain a complete mystery until the very end, as all that extra surface to ink may well tip the scales in favour of the team who was losing then. It will definitely make for exciting matches!

Here’s some pictures for the Mahi-Mahi Resort map:

The Mahi-Mahi Resort map will be added later this week:

  • Europe: 3AM (Friday)
  • UK: 2AM (Friday)
  • North America (EDT): 9PM (Thursday evening)
  • North America (DPT): 6PM (Thursday evening)
  • Japan: 11AM (Friday)

Finally, don’t forget the 8th North American Splatfest takes place this week-end! It’s actually the reason the map is released on Friday, instead of Saturday, since the usual release day and time would land right during the Splatfest.
