Rune Factory 5 sells 500 000 units worldwide

XSEED have just announced that Rune Factory 5, the latest entry in the Rune Factory series, has now sold over 500 000 units worldwide (the press release does not specify it, but that number most likely includes both physical and digital sales):

XSEED Games, the independent-minded publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc., announced today that Rune Factory 5, the latest entry in the RPG/Farming sim franchise, has sold over 500,000 copies worldwide on the Nintendo Switch™ system. The announcement comes less than two months out from the title’s launch in North America and Europe on Mar. 22 and 25, 2022, respectively, and less than a year from its initial launch in Japan on May 20, 2021.

This a really good number for Rune Factory 5, as it took a little under 5 months for Rune Factory 4 Special to sell 100 000 units in North America (which already was a significant milestone for the series).

Unfortunately, XSEED does not provide a regional breakdown, and so we don’t really know in which region the game was the most popular. As of December 26th, the game had sold 140,391 units in Japan at retail alone, which means Rune Factory 5 sold about 360 000 units in Japan (digital) + North America and Europe (retail + digital).
