On this page, you will find all there is to know about Software updates for Rocket League on Nintendo Switch (originally released on the Nintendo eShop on November 14th 2017 in Japan, Europe, and North America).

How to download Software updates for Rocket League on Nintendo Switch?

To download updates for Rocket League on Nintendo Switch, you have three options:

  • let the console do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated, and didn’t completely turn it off

If not…

  • try to launch the game from the Home Menu while being connected to the internet. You should get a prompt when doing so: simply follow the instructions on screen;

OR

  • select the game > press either + or – to go to the Options page > select Software update > select Via the Internet.

To check that you have the latest version installed, press either + or – to go to the Options page. The version number is displayed right under the game’s title.

Rocket League – Ver. 1.57

General

  • Corrected rear wheel placement on the ‘’99 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34’
  • The force that flips cars into upright position will no longer accidentally trigger during dodges
  • Fixed an issue causing the Camera Shake option to not be respected in all contexts

KNOWN ISSUES

  • The “No XP awarded. Minimum score threshold not met.” notification may appear despite earning enough XP in a match
    • This is only a notification error; your account is still earning the appropriate amount of XP

  • Adjusted how Club colors are displayed in an Arena during a Club Match

  • Fixed the ‘Striker Legend’ Goal Explosion displaying as ‘Striker Pro’

BUG FIXES

Mothership Pro Wheels

  • The Wheels will remain in every player’s inventory, but the name will change from ‘Mothership Pro’ to ‘Mothership’ 
    • These Wheels will maintain a ‘Common’ rarity designation
  • If you redeemed a Mothership Pro code on your account, you will receive a new white-colored ‘Mothership Pro’ Wheel with ‘Limited’ rarity status
    • Code holders will also keep the Common ‘Mothership’ Wheels
    • If you received a code from attending the RLCS Season 5 World Championship, but have not redeemed it yet, the code will now unlock this new white Mothership Pro in your inventory going forward

General

  • Optimized Season 8 Reward Boost performance
  • Fixed a bug preventing correct UI from displaying for spectators at the end of a match
  • One-frame input delay between jump and directional input has been fixed

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Competitive Season 8 has ended. Titles and items will be awarded for your highest rank achieved during the season. Season 8 Rewards are custom, non-tradeable Rocket Boosts
  • Receiving Season 8 Rewards is also contingent upon successful completion of Season Reward Levels

Competitive Season 9

  • Competitive Season 9 has begun
    • Season 9 brings a “soft reset” that requires you to do placement matches in each playlist to recalibrate
    • Winning half of your placement matches will land you near your previous season ranking
    • League Rankings will be temporarily empty until players complete their placement matches
  • Ranked Extra Modes
    • Ranked Playlists for 3v3 Dropshot, 2v2 Hoops, 3v3 Rumble and 3v3 Snow Day are now available under the Extra Modes tab in the Playlist Menu
    • You will have a unique MMR for each Playlist
    • You will be required to complete ten placement matches before obtaining a Rank in each Playlist
    • All Ranked Extra Mode Playlists will contribute to your Season Reward Level
    • Extra Modes have been removed from the Casual Playlist tab
    • You will have the option to hide your Rank in the new Ranked Extra Modes Playlists
    • Ranked Extra Modes will not have leaderboards for Season 9

Progression

  • The post-match XP screen has been shortened and can now be skipped, bringing you right to the End Match screen and lobby
  • Consecutive Match Bonus has been increased from 50 XP to 200 XP
  • Weekly Win Bonus has been changed from a multiplier to a flat amount of 2,500 XP per eligible win

General

  • Discord button has been added to the News Panel
    • Clicking this button will minimize Rocket League and take you to discord.gg/rocketleague, where you can join the official Rocket League Discord server

BUG FIXES

General

  • Fixed issue where focus could be lost when closing party chat panel with controller
  • Details window now appears in trades with only one item
  • Older Replays recorded on Farmstead no longer crash the client
  • Fixed a bug with bot behavior related to air dodge, rolling and ball strikes
  • ‘Best of the Bunch,’ ‘Squad Goals,’ ‘New Challenger’ and ‘Together is Better’ Achievements/Trophies now work as intended
  • Club invites no longer block a player’s view while trading
  • Checking the ‘Friends Only’ League Rankings now shows all friends

KNOWN ISSUES

  • RLCS Fan Rewards Decals may not show all details in the trade window
  • ‘Megabat’ Decal may cover trim on Painted Car Bodies
  • Some Competitive pop-up messages may not reference Ranked Extra Modes when they are supposed to

  • During a trade, selecting, removing and re-selecting an item from an inventory stack may cause the check mark to disappear

Progression

  • Gaining Experience and Leveling Up have been rebuilt from the ground-up
  • Experience (XP)
    • You can now only earn XP in Online Casual & Competitive Matches
    • XP is now primarily based on Match Length, not your score
      • You earn a scaling amount of XP for each second of a match, including Overtime, up to a maximum of 20 minutes
      • A match must be at least 60 seconds long to reward any XP
    • New match XP bonuses have been added, including:
      • Score
      • MVP
      • Consecutive Games (when you stay in the same Casual server)
      • Backfill (when you replace a bot in a Casual match)
      • Weekly Wins
        • Each day, you accumulate 2 Weekly Win bonuses, up to a maximum of 14 (one week’s worth)
        • Each win earns +200% XP and consumes one of your bonus wins
    • XP is only rewarded if a match is completed
      • Forfeiting a match counts as match completion
    • Match Stats that grant Score have been revised to focus on important events
      • Goals, Assists, Saves, Clears, etc. all still give Score and a notification
      • First Touch, Aerial Hit, Bicycle Hit, and Juggle Hit no longer award Score
        • These stats are still tracked and updated for your Career Stats page
  • Leveling
    • From Level 20 upward, Levels now require a flat amount of XP instead of taking progressively longer to earn
    • The Level 75 cap has been removed; there is no longer a Level cap
    • Conversion
      • All players have been converted to a new Level based on multiple factors, including total Online Matches played and total XP earned
      • Players Level 40 and below convert to roughly the same level as before
      • Players above Level 40 convert to a higher level than before
      • Players who have been capped at Level 75 for some time will gain extra Levels based on total Online Matches played
  • Rewards
    • Avatar Borders
      • Added a new Customization Item: Avatar Borders
      • You unlock new Avatar Borders by leveling up in addition to Titles
      • You can select a Border and customize its coloration from the Garage submenu
      • Borders are unlocked every 25 Levels up to Level 300, after which they are unlocked every 50 Levels
    • Uncommon / “Online” Drops
      • You will now receive a random Uncommon or higher item every time you Level up
      • Uncommon items and higher will no longer drop randomly after matches
    • Common / “Offline” Drops
      • You will now unlock all Common items for a specific Customization Item slot simultaneously, rather than one at a time
      • Each slot’s Common items are unlocked after a set number of total matches played (Online or Offline)
      • You will not lose access to any Common items you have already unlocked
  • Titles
    • Titles are now awarded to your account for reaching specific Levels
      • You will retain any Titles you have previously earned
    • You can equip any Title you have acquired via the “Titles” option in the Garage submenu, not just the highest-level one you possess
      • The ‘Rookie’ and ‘Semi-Pro’ Titles have been removed as part of this change to prevent players from equipping misleading titles for their skill level
    • Legacy XP Titles have had their level requirements adjusted for the new XP system.
      • ‘Veteran’: Level 20
      • ‘Expert’: Level 40
      • ‘Master’: Level 60
      • ‘Legend’: Level 80
      • ‘Rocketeer’: Level 100
    • Additional new titles are available every one hundred Levels after Level 100
    • Titles will also be available elsewhere, including Rocket Pass and Events

Match Forfeit

  • Forfeit Votes can no longer be triggered until 90 seconds have elapsed in a given Competitive Match
    • 1v1 Competitive Matches do not have the 90-second restriction
  • You can still Vote to Forfeit even after another player has left your team
    • Forfeiting allows you to still earn XP and rewards for a match
    • If you “Leave” early you will not earn XP
  • Players can now only trigger one Forfeit vote each unless everyone on their team has also initiated a Forfeit vote

Clubs

  • You can now form a ‘Club’ with other players
  • A Club consists of:
    • A roster of up to 20 members
    • A Club Name
      • Between 3-32 characters
      • Club Names are not unique
    • A Club Tag
      • Between 2-4 characters
      • Shows before your username on banners, scoreboards, etc.
        • e.g. [PSY] Devone
      • Club Tags are not unique
    • Club Colors
      • Primary & Secondary
    • Club Owner
      • The player who created the Club by default
      • Can add/remove members
      • Ownership can be transferred to another Club member by the owner
      • Club Owners must transfer ownership before they leave a Club
  • Editing Your Club
    • The Club owner can rename a Club (name & tag) once per week
    • The Club owner can change the Club’s colors with no restrictions
  • Club Matches
    • When a Casual or Competitive Match is created and if each team is composed entirely of members of a single Club (one per team), a “Club Match” will be activated
    • Club Matches change the team colors and stadium colors to Club colors
      • If the colors are too similar, we find a suitable color for one team by first attempting to use their Secondary color, then a neutral option
      • Club Members who wish to opt out of this functionality can enable “Force Default Team Colors” under Interface Options
    • Club Names will replace “Blue Team” and “Orange Team” on the scoreboard, and when goals are scored
    • Club Matches do not occur in 1v1 matches, Private Matches, or Tournaments
  • Club Utilities
    • Clubs can set a Message of the Day (MOTD) to easily communicate to all members
    • The Private Match button in the Club Menu lets you quickly and easily create or join a lobby just for your Club
  • Verification
    • Clubs may be “Verified” which adds an exclusive checkmark by their name on the in-game scoreboard
    • This verification flag guarantees a particular club / player is the “real” one verified by Psyonix
    • Club Tags and Names are unique among Verified Clubs, but are not globally unique
    • Changing a Verified Club’s name or tag will cause it to lose verified status
    • Verification will only be made available to select partners and esports organizations
  • Cross-Platform
    • Clubs support cross-platform membership, but you will not be able to invite cross-platform players until the RocketID system is released later this year

Text Filtering

  • Implemented a new real-time text filtering system that applies to the following cases on all platforms:
    • Player Names
    • Club Names & Tags
    • Tournament Names and Team Names
  • Chat will be added to this filter system in a future update

  • Fixed Postgame Spotlight camera breaking if players left the match
  • When the “Match Notifications” option is set to Time Updates or Kickoffs Only, you will once again hear the audio cues for hidden notifications like “1 Minute Remaining”
  • Fixed an issue that could cause reconnecting to a Ranked Match to fail
  • Fixed appearance of Painted ‘Mainframe’ Decals
  • Fixed chat input being lost when an item popup occurs
  • Fixed an issue causing ball trail effects to shorten at high framerates

Network Settings

  • Network settings (Client Send Rate, Server Send Rate, Bandwidth Limit) will each be reset to High for all players on all platforms. Changing these settings will now have an effect on your network connection

  • Stats on all ‘Merc’ Car Bodies should now be restored
  • Fixed Spectator issue causing camera updates to not replicate fast enough. This was causing desynchronization between spectators and the players they were viewing.
  • Fixed a bug in how Ping was being calculated and displayed
    • Your displayed ping to a given server region may be higher or lower after this update, but the latency between you and the servers has not changed. This is only a visual correction.

Competitive Season 8

Tournaments

  • Players can now create and join Tournaments via the Main Menu
    • From the Main Menu, select ‘Play’ and then ‘Tournaments’ to find the Tournaments Menu
  • Tournaments have a maximum bracket size of 128 teams, minimum of eight teams
    • Team members must be in a party in order to register for a tournament
  • Cross-platform tournaments are enabled
  • Tournament creators can set minimum and maximum thresholds for entry based on a player’s Rank in the related Competitive Playlist

Quality Connection Status

  • In addition to showing your ping on the scoreboard, you will now also see in-game icons on the HUD if you are experiencing connection problems. This will help you better diagnose if gameplay issues are related to server performance or your connection.
  • You may see one or more of the following warnings when the client detects issues with your connection:
    • High Latency
    • Latency Variance
    • Packet Loss
    • Server Health
  • Additionally, if you are experiencing any of these issues, you will see a warning “!” symbol next to your ping on the scoreboard.
  • If one or more of these issues persists, you will also be notified via a pop-up notification in the Main Menu after exiting a match

Chat Bans and Report Feedback

  • Chat Bans
    • Players can now receive a “Chat Ban” that restricts the banned player from sending chat messages in online play
    • If you are Chat-Banned, you will receive a notification on the main menu with information about the chat that contributed to your ban
    • Quick Chat is still allowed but chat-banned players can only send one Quick Chat message every 5 seconds
    • Chat Bans do not affect Private Matches or Party Chat
  • Report Notifications
    • If a player you reported receives a ban of any kind, you will now be notified of the ban via a main menu notification

Items and Inventory

  • Favorite Items
    • You can now Favorite items in the Garage and Inventory screens. Favorited items appear at the top of each tab
      Item Stacking
  • Most items will now automatically stack in the Inventory to reduce clutter in the inventory and trade windows
    • Duplicate items with different attributes (e.g. Painted or Certified) do not stack
    • Duplicate items with different trade holds do not stack
    • Each item in a stack still counts towards the maximum items in a trade
    • When adding a stacked items to a trade, you can select how many from the stack to offer with a slider
  • The Garage now supports Search and Filter functionalities
  • The Inventory screen now has tabs to quickly switch between different categories of items
  • Items can now be sorted by Date Acquired and Quality
  • Different Painted Car Bodies can now be equipped to the Blue and Orange teams

User Interface

  • A new “Interface” tab has been added to Options that contains all settings that control the user interface
  • Gameplay
    • Text Chat can now be set to ‘Team Quick Chat Only’
    • Client Send Rate – Limit how many packets your client sends per frame (may help on weak/wifi connections)

Map Rotation

  • Aquadome and Starbase ARC have been added back into the Competitive Playlist map rotation

Team Colors

  • Expanded the palette of Blue and Orange team color choices for customization

In-Game Music

  • You can now listen to Rocket League soundtracks during a match
  • Under the ‘Audio’ Tab in the Options Menu, you can set ‘In-Game Music’ to:

Enhanced Crowd Audio

  • The in-game crowd can now predict shots and saves using the same logic as the Director camera in Spectator mode
  • Now that the crowd can predict exciting moments, they will get louder and more excited in advance of events instead of only making noise after something happens

Nintendo Switch

  • Video Capture has been added
    • To use Video Capture, press and briefly hold the Share button (below the D-pad) and the last 30 seconds of gameplay will be saved as a video.
  • Switch players can now choose between ‘Performance’ and ‘Quality’ under the ‘Video’ tab in the Options Menu
