*”Rush of the Simurgh” time power required for the new dimensional door to appear.

GAMEPLAY

Addressed:

  • Players can get stuck with a lock door leading to “King Boss”, even with all three gongs activated. Leaving them unable to continue the main story.*²
  • Rare crash that could occur during “King Boss” boss fight following the main story and during fights in Boss Revenge/Boss Rush.

*²Active fix for players stuck at the door leading to “King Boss” in their save file:

If a player has a save file with a locked door, but they

  1. haven’t passed through it yet, so the path to “King Boss”‘ area on the map is fogged, then the player will have to redo the 3 gongs to unlock the main door.
  2. have already visited the area leading to “King Boss”, and might have even tried to fight him, then the player will have to go to visit any area that is not The Tower of Silence, then go back to the door and reopen it. If this didn’t help, the three gongs will have to be redone.
  • Additional details:
Totally new challenges

The Divine Trials can be accessed via a special door in the Haven, after having gained the Rush of the Simurgh (Air dash) time power. Entering the special door leads you to a mystical room containing 4 Memorials, one for each set of challenges. Each Memorial is unlocked after gaining a specific power in the main story.

4 different Memorials with gradual unlock, arranged by difficulty:
  • The 1st Memorial (Hound): unlocked after defeating the Manticore and gaining the Rush of the Simurgh (Air dash)
  • The 2nd Memorial (Peacock): unlocked after escaping the Depths and gaining the Shadow of the Simurgh
  • The 3rd Memorial (Stallion): unlocked after defeating the darkest of souls and gaining the Gravity Wings (Double Jump)
  • The 4th Memorial (Auroch): unlocked after emerging victorious at the battle at the Observatory and gaining the Fabric of Time

Accomplish the Trials in any order

When you interact with a Memorial, a varied set of 5 to 6 challenges await you. You are free to complete the combat, puzzle and platforming challenges in any order. You will however have to beat all challenges of the Memorial to unlock the final boss challenge.

  • Revised Bosses: The final challenge of each Memorial is an updated Boss from the main game! With new attack patterns and sometimes an altered appearance.
  • Prove your skills and get rewarded: Defeating the revised Boss will grant you the Memorial’s reward: a new Amulet and a new Outfit for Sargon.

Each challenge is unique

Each trial is carefully handcrafted with exotic modifiers to create exciting challenges deeply different from anything seen in the game this far.

  • Specific set of modifiers: Trials can present unique mechanics not used in the game. For instance, one is a Time attack: a timed platform challenge, with each killed enemy on the way adding a few seconds to the timer. Another can be a Combat challenge where enemies can only be damaged by specific attacks, or environmental damage, forcing you to adapt your strategy.
  • Specific setup for each Trial: Your loadout is pre-fixed, independent from your regular gear in the game: number of potions, equipped amulets, and life bar. Some challenges will even forbid the usage of the bow, or of specific Time Powers.
  • Platform & Puzzle Challenges: These will require you to be very precise in your traversal abilities. They will make you think of new and clever ways to use the powers at your disposal.
  • Combat Challenges: These very often require fighting waves after waves of enemies without dying – and most often without potions. Each one features a unique modifier that makes the fight memorable and adds a layer of difficulty.
  • 4 Revised Bosses: Fight Erlik, Jahandar, Kiana and Menolias anew, but this time with extra attack patterns – and a fixed loadout to begin with.

4 new Amulets to unlock:

The new Amulets can be used outside of the challenges, in the rest of the game, once unlocked. However, they cannot be upgraded, contrary to the other Amulets from the main game.

  • Arash’s Quiver: Arrows quiver automatically refills over time – goes back up to 5 arrows, independently of max capacity. This is unlocked by completing the 1st Memorial.
  • Flaming Whirlwind: Charge your attack and unleash a storm of blue fire. Replaces the regular charged attack. This is unlocked by completing the 2nd Memorial.
  • Point of Honor: After hitting enemies several times in a row your next arrow shot is stronger. This is unlocked by completing the 3rd Memorial.
  • Frozen Truth: Hold down the Parry button for a few seconds to charge an ice protection, that will partially protect you from the next attack. Once hit, it explodes in a small AoE ice attack that freezes enemies nearby. The ability vanishes after a few seconds if not triggered. This is unlocked by completing the 4th Memorial.

All Trials are compatible with difficulty presets/customized difficulty. The Platforming Help Option can be enabled during platforming sequences.

Note: Speedrun mode timer keeps running normally in the Trials. Also, dying in a Trial while in Permadeath mode doesn’t trigger the Permadeath.

Access conditions for the Divine Trials:

  • The Divine Trials Update is automatically downloaded on all platforms.
  • The Divine Trials can be accessed as soon as you have reached the first unlock condition (defeating the Manticore). Can also be accessed in any pre-existing save file.
  • The exclusive outfits get unlocked across all existing saves once obtained. But the Amulets remain exclusive to the save slot.

  • Pick your level of challenge: For each Boss, you can choose the difficulty you want to play them against: Rookie/Warrior/Hero/Immortal or No Hit. This choice is independent from the current game difficulty.
  • Prove your skills and beat your own records: A seal is displayed once you’ve beaten a Boss in a set difficulty. The look of the seal (Bronze/Silver/Gold) depends on your time.
Boss Rush

The greatest challenge awaits the bravest: the Boss Rush. This is an endgame challenge where you test your abilities and skills by defeating all the main bosses in a row. Two new outfits can be unlocked by beating this challenge at different difficulty levels.

  • Endgame challenge: The Rush gets unlocked after finishing the main story. In this challenge, you will enter with your current life/Amulets/Time Powers/Weapon Upgrades and Athra surges.

  • Manage your resources: The amount of Life / Potions / Arrows or Athra gauge left is kept from one battle to the next. You’ll need to plan your rush, and use the possibility to change your Amulets & Athra Surges loadout between each fight wisely. Some Amulets are not active in Boss Rush to keep the experience balanced.
  • Prove your skills and beat your own records: A seal is displayed once you’ve beaten the complete Boss Rush in any difficulty, alongside the time taken to do so. Beating the challenge on a high difficulty setting also unlocks the seal for the lower difficulty ones. Theres a possibility there’s a secret seal…
