Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: latest trailers and details (new Z-Moves, Rotom Dex, more)

This week again, The Pokémon Company has revealed brand new details about Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, with the official reveal of the leaked details from this month’s issue of CoroCoro magazine.

Let’s start with the two new trailers (Europe/North America and Japan):

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon – Pokémon

This time, the new details on Pokémon focus exclusively on Necrozma and its two new forms:

Necrozma

  • Category: Prism Pokémon
  • Type: Psychic
  • Height: 7’10”
  • Weight: 507.1 lbs.
  • Ability: Prism Armor

Necrozma is a mysterious Legendary Pokémon said to be from a different world. Necrozma uses light as an energy source to stay active. It also absorbs light energy from its opponents and turns that energy into powerful lasers using the prisms in its two arms. The lasers can blast through anything. It has a dangerous nature, and rages about in search of light, but also appears to be in pain when it does so.

Necrozma is the only Pokémon that can use Prismatic Laser: a devastating Psychic-type move, even more powerful than Hyper Beam or Giga Impact, that leaves it unable to move the turn after using it.

But that’s not all: Necrozma can also use Photo Geyser, another exclusive Psychic-type move, that engulfs the target in a pillar of light. It compares the user’s Attack and Sp. Atk stats, and deals damage according to whichever is higher. For maximum power, you need to use this move with Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma, who have extremely high Attack and Sp. Atk respectively.

Here’s a video of that move being used by Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma:

Finally, Necrozma’s signature Ability is Prism Armour, which reduces the amount of damage taken from supereffective moves.

Dusk Mane Necrozma

  • Category: Prism Pokémon
  • Type: Psychic/Steel
  • Height: 12’06”
  • Weight: 1,014.1 lbs.
  • Ability: Prism Armor

Dusk Mane Necrozma controls both the body and mind of the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo, absorbing the light energy that pours out of it.

Dusk Mane Necrozma can propel itself forward by shooting black light from both sides of its chest, giving it a powerful means of propulsion.

By taking Solgaleo into itself, Necrozma’s Attack rises beyond its previous level. It slices opponents with the powered-up claws on its four legs. The power greatly exceeds that of Solgaleo. Players can expect it to be a great aid in battles using physical moves, including Sunsteel Strike.

Dawn Wings Necrozma

  • Category: Prism Pokémon
  • Type: Psychic/Ghost
  • Height: 13’09”
  • Weight: 771.6 lbs.
  • Ability: Prism Armor

Dawn Wings Necrozma controls both the body and mind of the Legendary Pokémon Lunala, taking Lunala’s light energy into itself by force.

This Necrozma shoots energy that glows darkly from the black portions of its wings. It accelerates by the shooting black light from its back, getting right up close to enemies in a furious rush. The power far exceeds that of Lunala.

By taking Lunala into itself, Necrozma’s Sp. Atk stat gets even higher. It’s well suited to battles that use special moves, including Moongeist Beam.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon – New features

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon introduces new, exclusive Z-Moves for Solgaleo and Lunala (but also Necrozma, as long as it learns Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam), called Searing Sunraze Smash and Menacing Moonraze Maelsrom:

  • Searing Sunraze Smash (Steel-type, requires the Solganium Z): deal damage while ignoring the target’s Ability.
  • Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom (Ghost-type, requires the Lunalium Z): deals damage while ignoring the target’s Ability.

Another new feature: the Rotom Pokédex… or rather, its new features! Unlike Pokémon Sun and Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon allow you to grow closer to Rotom the more you communicate with it. Its personality also change based on how you communicate with it, and it’s said it ends acting a bit like you.

Once you’ve become closer to Rotom, you will be able to use the Roto Loto feature, that lets you get items from the Rotom Dex. Those can increase the Exp. Points or prize money you receive for a set period of time, make it easier for you to catch Pokémon, and more. The best part? You can choose when to use those Rotom Powers (from your bag)!

Also, thanks to Rotom’s Z-Power, you can use a second Z-Move in battle, instead of just one. Of course, you need to grow close enough to Rotom for that to become possible!

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS) comes out on November 17th worldwide.
