Nintendo Tourneys: Online Tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 in Europe and North America

Good news for those of you in Europe and North America who were looking forward to some Nintendo Tourneys: Nintendo has announced no less than 3 such tournaments today, for both Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Nintendo Tourneys: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019

Players in North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico) can take part in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019, with the final event taking place at PAX East in March.

But before that, there’s the various online events, and the top players from each one will advance to the final event. They take place on the following days from 9AM PT:

Online Event 1
  • Includes Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast Regions
  • Qualifiers – Feb. 2
  • Finals – Feb. 9
  • Register by Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. PT.
Online Event 2
  • Includes Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast Regions
  • Qualifiers – Feb. 16
  • Finals – March 2
  • Register by Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. PT.
Online Event 3
  • Includes Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast Regions
  • Qualifiers – March 9
  • Finals – March 16
  • Register by March 9 at 9 a.m. PT.

If you’re just interested in spectating: every event (though only the qualifiers finals) will be livestreamed!

In order to participate, you first have to register via the Battlefly website: click here to do so! The competition is open to players aged 13 or above (except in Mexico, where it’s 18 or above). There’s several regions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, or Southeast), and each one has a cap of 2 048 check-in players for each qualifier. In other words, a total of 8 192 players per qualifier series across the 4 regions.

Nintendo Tourneys – Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019

The Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open is back! It will take place in three phases:

  • Ink Pools (February 10th, at 9AM PT / 12PM ET / 5PM GMT / 6PM CET): qualifiers, via Turf War battles
  • Online Qualifier Finals (March 2nd at 9AM PT / 12PM ET / 5PM GMT / 6PM CET) : 8 top teams from the Ink Pools. This particular tourney will be livestreamed!

After that, the final 4 teams will go to PAX East, where they will compete in the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019.

Nintendo Tourneys – European Smash Ball Team Cup

In Europe, the European Smash Ball Team Cup will have the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate squads from across Europe battle. It will culminate with a live final this Spring, which wilkl crown the continent’s winner.

Teams of 3 will battle in best-of-three and best-of-five Stock matches with only the Smash Ball allowed as item. As for match types, they will consist in 2vs2, Smashdown, and 3vs3 Squad Strike.

But before the big tournament, there will be national qualifiers in the following countries/regions:

  • United Kingdom & Ireland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • Italy
  • Russia
  • Netherland
  • Belgium
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • The Nordics, comprising Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden

After that, the winning squads from those tourneys will advance to the final, taking place this Spring. More details about it will be shared at a later date.
