Nintendo: Takashi Tezuka to retire as Executive Officer this June

On June 26th, Nintendo will hold its usual Annual General Meeting of Shareholders. After that meeting, several personnel changes will go into effect. And this year, there will be a pretty notable change: Takashi Tezuka is retiring as Executive Officer.

Right now, it’s not entirely clear if Takashi Tezuka is retiring from Nintendo altogether, but considering he will turn 66 this November, it’s unlikely he will get to play a major role at the company even if he does end up staying.

While not quite as famous as the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto (with whom he’s often worked with), Takashi Tezuka is nonetheless one of the most notable Nintendo creators of all time, beloved by fans around the world.

After all, he was directly involved in many of the company’s most famous games and series, directing the likes of Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and serving as producer for countless classics (most recently: Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Pikmin 4).
