Last week, Nintendo released a new Software update for Nintendo Switch Sports. But while Ver. 1.2.1 didn’t add any new exciting content or features, it did add a nasty glitch causing the game to crash during the pre-match loading.

Today, Nintendo shared some additional details about the issue, and what’s in the works to fix it.

First, the cause of the issue: if players started a 2-player match under certain conditions, an error would occur when writing the save data. This would effectively corrupt it, then causing the game to crash even when trying to play with a different number of players.

In order to fix the issue, Nintendo will release not one, but two Software updates: Ver. 1.2.2 on October 17th/18th, and Ver. 1.2.3 on October 19th/20th. If you still cannot play after downloading the first update, you will have to wait for the second one to be released.

Once Ver. 1.2.2 has been released, the emergency maintenance will end and online play will resume. Then, once Ver. 1.2.3 has been released, players will be able to use the Save Data Cloud feature (Nintendo Switch Online) with this game again. Speaking of Ver. 1.2.3, Nintendo mentions that the order in which your accessories (head) are displayed in-game may change because of this update, but this will have no impact on gameplay.

Finally, Nintendo shared details about compensation for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers: anyone who has subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online and played Nintendo Switch Sports will see their current subscription extended by 7 days. More details about this will be shared in the future.

Also, from October 18th to November 3rd, the point multiplier in “Play Globally” will be doubled (normally, it’s 1.1-1.3). And finally, Nintendo will have a re-run of the limited items players could not get as a result of the maintenance.
