Nintendo reveals the New Nintendo 2DS XL, Miitopia release date

With the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo made it clear that, despite the Nintendo Switch, it certainly wasn’t time for retirement for the good ol’ Nintendo 3DS. And today, the company squashed any remaining doubts about its commitment to the handheld by announcing… a new Nintendo 3DS model, the 6th one!

Introducing… the New Nintendo 2DS XL! (Do NOT ask about the New Nintendo 2DS… seriously).

As the name implies, the New Nintendo 2DS XL is basically a 2D-only version of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, albeit with a significantly different design. But the rest is pretty much the same: the souped-up CPU, the C-Stick, the ZR and ZL button, the NFC reader/writer, etc. In fact, the New Nintendo 2DS XL will have something neither the New Nintendo 3DS or the New Nintendo 3DS XL have… an AC Adapter in the box!

Here’s everything you need to know about the console:

  • Release date: June 15th (Australia) / July 13th (Japan) / July 28th (Europe, North America)
  • Price: $149.99 / 14 980 Yen / AU$199.95
  • Colours: black/turquoise (worldwide) / white/orange (Europe, Japan, Australia)
  • Size: 4.88 inch screen
  • Weighting: about 260 grams
  • Contents: console, stylus (in the console), 4GB microSD card (in the console), 6 AR Cards, Operation Manual, AC Adapter

Here’s plenty of pictures of the console and its box:

Also, Nintendo announced that on the same day as this new Nintendo 3DS model, Miitopia would be released in Europe and North America. As a matter of fact, Hey! Pikmin also comes out on the same day as the console worldwide (except in Australia).

In Europe, Dr Kawashima’s Devilish Brain Training: Can you stay focused? is also releasing on July 28th. In Japan, The Snack World: TreJarers and 100% Pascal-sensei Kanpeki Paint Bombers will be releasing alongside the console, Hey! Pikmin, and Ever Oasis.

The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
