Mortal Kombat 11 announced for the Nintendo Switch

For the first time in well over a decade (since Ultimate Mortal Kombat on Nintendo DS), the Mortal Kombat is headed to a Nintendo platform! Yesterday, during the Game Awards, Mortal Kombat 11 was revealed to the world, and it turns out there’s a Nintendo Switch version in the works!

Mortal Kombat 11 is developed by NetherRealm Studios, and it will be released on April 23rd worldwide. You can check out the debut trailer below:

Mortal Kombat 11 will be showcased in a special livestream called Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal on January 17th, where actual gameplay footage will be shown for the very first time. You will be able to watch it on Twitch, at the following time:

  • Europe: January 17th at 10PM
  • UK: January 17th at 9PM
  • North America (ET): January 17th at 2PM
  • North America (PT: January 17th at 11AM
  • Japan: January 18th at 6AM

That event will also have a keynote, but also hands-on opportunity, tournament, and various other activities.

Mortal Kombat 11 will feature an “epic, time bending story”, as well as an original soundtrack created in collaboration with 21 Savage (a rapper).  The song featured in the trailer is titled “Immortal”. As for gameplay, the game will offer deep customisation with the Custom Character Variation System, that lets players create their own, customised version of the various characters.

Mortal Kombat 11 will cost $59.99, with a Premium Edition sold $99.99. That edition includes the following:

  • base game
  • Kombat Pack

Also, all pre-order include a playable character: Shao Kahn.
