Miyamoto says not to worry about Zelda on Wii U

Naturally, with The Legend of Zelda’s Wii U entry being absent from E3, press was going to jump on the chance to ask Shigeru Miyamoto about the status of the game during interviews for Star Fox Zero. IGN got the scoop and received confirmation that the game is still headed to Wii U next year, silencing those that believed it had moved over to whatever the NX platform turns out to be. Although it should be noted that if this were the case, Nintendo would surely not reveal this casually during interviews about another game.

2643971-wiiu_zelda_scrn04_e3A few days before a Nintendo Direct that aired on April 1st 2015,  Eiji Aonuma appeared in a video addressing fans and informing them that The Legend of Zelda for Wii U would no longer have a development priority set on being ready for release in 2015 and would also not be shown at E3 2015 due to lots of new ideas that came up during development. Needless to say, fans were not happy with this news and immediately started speculating that the project might receive a similar treatment to Twilight Princess which, originally developed for Nintendo GameCube, shifted to being a launch title for Wii with a GameCube version being released shortly after that version.

Miyamoto’s put these worries to rest for now with his reassurance while going on to mention that they had “great footage” of the game that they would be showing “at some point.” Read the full quote below:

“We’re here to talk about Star Fox but Zelda is still coming to Wii U,” Miyamoto said through an interpreter, “so don’t worry about that.”

Miyamoto continued, “My thing with E3 is that we always focus on what’s coming out in the immediate future. We have some really great Zelda footage and, at some point we will be showing that off, but not today.”
