Media Create: some comments about Week 17 in Japan and Bravely Second launch [Top 50]

During Week 17, over 484 000 games were sold in Japan: it’s the third week in a row that the total of sales is below the 500 000 units mark. Media Create explains that even if sales increased to 126.90% of last week, mainly thanks to Bravely Second: End Layer, the Software market was still stagnant overall.

Bravely Second: End Layer was the best-seller during that week, with 100 047 units. This may sound pretty good at first, but it’s actually a significant drop compared to the first game which sold over 142 000 units during its first week.

Bravely Second is a direct sequel, and it looks like most of the players who bought it were fans who already played the first game. It seems that Square-Enix hasn’t been able to attract new players with this second installment. As a result, the initial sell-through rate has also dropped from 85.68% (Bravely Default) to 53.63%, even though it came out just before the start of the Golden Week (a time when the game market usually swells).
