Marvelous/XSEED bringing Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star to the Nintendo Switch

There were a few surprising and/or unexpected announced during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, and Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star is definitely one of them. Developed by Marvelous, the game features an original story by Kinoko Nasu (of Fate/stay night fame), that takes places after the events from Fate/EXTRA.

In Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, players can control 16 different Servants, ancient warriors of legend who survived the Holy Grail War that took place on the Moon. The game takes place in a future dominated by the Moon Cell Automaton: an all-powerful lunar supercomputer. The Servants battle for dominance over a digital real known as SE.RA.PH.

The story is told from the independant perspectives of the three factions fighting for control over SE.RA.PH. Enemies encountered throughout the game come from various other Fate productions, such as Fate/EXTRA, Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha, and Fate/Grand Order.

Gameplay-wise, Fate/EXTELLA offers fast-paced combat, with a new form change battle mechanic called Moon Crux. This mechanic allows players to transform the Servants, and given them considerable powers.
