Mario Day 2024: all the announcements

Today is March 10th, aka. Mario Day. To celebrate, Nintendo uploaded a short video with several announcements related to the Mario series. New animated movie, release dates for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, new Nintendo Switch Online releases… that’s quite a lot of announcements was able to pack in such a short video!

Here’s the Mario Day 2024 video with all the announcements:

First up: a second animated movie featuring the world’s most well-known plumber is currently in the works. It will be released on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other countries, and with additional countries/regions getting the movie later that month.

Just like the first one, this second Mario movie is being co-produced by Nintendo and Illumination. Unfortunately, little to no details were shared (not even a poster!), though we do know some of the people and companies involved:

• Producers: Chris Meledandri (Founder and CEO of Illumination) and Shigeru Miyamoto (Representative Director, Fellow of Nintendo)
• Director: Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (same as the Super Mario Bros. Movie)
• Scenario: Matthew Fogel (same as the Super Mario Bros. Movie)
• Financed by: Nintendo and Universal Pictures
• Distribution: Universal Pictures

Next: Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will launch on May 23rd worldwide. No new details were shared, but here’s a short video with some footage:

As for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, it will launch roughly a month later, on June 27th. Unfortunately, no new footage for that game was shared.

Finally, three 3 more Mario games are coming to Game Boy – Nintendo Switch Online on March 12th:

• Dr. Mario
• Mario Golf (Game Boy Color)
• Mario Tennis (Game Boy Color)
