Looking at launch week sales, it’s safe to say that Princess Zelda aced her debut as protagonist of her own game. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was the best-selling game in September with over 200,000 units sold.

The Nintendo Switch version of Gundam Breaker is far behind with “only” 67,782 units sold throughout the whole month (still a really positive result for the series, especially seeing that this version suffered from shortages).

With over 129.000 units sold across all platforms, Gundam Breaker 4 didn’t do quite as well as the previous numbered entry (Gundam Breaker 3, which had sold 185.000 during the same period), but noticeably better than the most recent game (New Gundam Breaker, 106.000 units sold).

Also, Famitsu points out that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has now sold over 6 million units at retail alone. But it’s not the only Nintendo Switch game to hit a milestone this month. Indeed, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has now sold over 2 million units at retail!

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher with nearly 600.000 units sold (597.000 to be precise). Of course, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom accounted for a big chunk of those sales (around 1/3), with the rest coming from Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club (which did not rank in the Top 5 Software) and the usual evergreen titles.

Bandai-Namco was the 2nd most successful publisher with about 168.000 units sold. Gundam Breaker 4 was its big release in August, and that’s where most of those sales come from.

  1. Nintendo: 597.000
  2. Bandai-Namco: 168.000
  3. Square-Enix: 87.000

Hardware

Hardware-wise, the Nintendo Switch saw a noticeable increase in sales in September, though said increase is almost entirely due to the tracking period for that month being 5 weeks (instead of 4 for August). Still, Nintendo Switch sales remain unusually strong not just for a post-Summer holidays month, but also for a console that’s well into its 8th year on the market.

  1. Nintendo Switch – 308.404 (August 2024: 227.913)
  2. PlayStation 5 – 74.523 (August 2024: 104.178)
