Japan: Famitsu sales for November 2020 (Software, Hardware, Publishers)

Famitsu have shared their monthly report on video game sales in Japan, this time covering November 2020 (to be more precise, the period going from October 26th to November 29th, so 5 weeks in total).

This month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is not #1 of sales because of several popular new releases. The best-selling one is Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, which is off to a great start with 472 426 units sold (best debut for the series by a long shot). All signs point towards an even stronger December, thanks to Christmas and positive word of mouth.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe also enjoyed a strong debut for a mere port, with 315 862 units sold. It’s already guaranteed to become the best-selling entry in the series, which bodes well for the long-awaited Pikmin 4. It should enjoy strong sales during the ongoing holiday season.

Finally, there’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity at #3 with 213 882 units sold during the first two weeks. It’s a really strong result for a Warriors games, though unlike Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, it’s most likely not going to get a significant boost in December.

Famitsu also points out that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has now sold over 6 million units since launch (retail alone).

This month, the Nintendo Switch grabbed all 5 spots in the Top 5 Software, thanks to strong sales of the new releases and equally strong sales of the usual evergreen titles.

NSW – 5

In November, Nintendo was once again the most successful publisher with nearly 1 million units sold thanks to a popular new release and strong sales for its evergreen titles. Konami is #2 with 498 000 units sold that come primarily from Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2020.

Here’s the Top 3 Publishers for November 2020:

  1. Nintendo: 997 000 units sold
  2. Konami: 498 000 units sold
  3. Sony Interactive Entertainment: 245 000 units sold

Hardware-wise, the Nintendo Switch saw its sales increase dramatically thanks to much bigger shipments from Nintendo. Demand remains really strong, but lotteries are now a thing for the past for all the standard models. December should be even stronger, though the lack of big titles this year is definitely going to limit sales potential. Since launch, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 16 million units.
