Once again, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream dominated sales in Japan, with over 515,000 units sold in June. This brings total sales to 1,259,000 units, and that’s only counting physical sales!

Meanwhile, Pokémon Pokopia ranked #2 for the second month in a row, with over 110,000 units sold. It’s the only other game to have sold over 100,000 units in May. It did sell more than in April, but that’s only because the tracking period for May had 5 weeks instead of 4 for April. It’s now sold over 1 million units at retail alone: a truly strong performance for a spin-off!

As for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, it’s off to a decent but otherwise unremarkable debut at retail with over 50,000 units sold. It did rank #2 in the monthly Nintendo eShop rankings on Nintendo Switch 2, which is fairly good.

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in Japan with around 863.000 units sold in May. Most of those sales come from Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, though the contribution of the usual evergreens titles on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 was pretty substantial. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book did not contribute much to total sales, unfortunately.

Thanks to Pokémon Pokopia and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the Pokémon Company ranked #2 with around 154.000 units sold. Finally, Capcom ranked #3 with around 69.000 units, with most sales coming from Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem.

  1. Nintendo: 863.000
  2. The Pokémon Company: 154.000
  3. Capcom: 69.000
Hardware

In May, Nintendo Switch 2 sales saw a truly massive increase in sale: they jumped from around 201,000 units to over 700,000 units! Of course, that increase is primarily due to the price hike that went into effect on May 25th, which led many people to rush to buy the console before it became even more expensive. Also, the tracking period for May includes the Golden Week, which also contributed to the exceedingly strong sales in May.

Because of the price hike, sales are bound to drop sharply in June, though by how much remains to be seen.

With over 710.000 units sold, May was the 3rd best month ever for the Nintendo Switch 2, following June 2025 (launch month, with 1.188.000 units sold) and December 2025 (first holiday month, 816.000 units sold).

Nintendo Switch sales went down in May with barely 78,000 units sold. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 wasn’t the only console to get a price hike on May 25th: all Nintendo Switch models did, which is bound to have a noticeable impact on sales (though it will not be quite as dramatic as for the Nintendo Switch 2!).

  1. Nintendo Switch 2: 711.911 (previous month: 201.706)
  2. Nintendo Switch: 77.981 (previous month: 96.111)
  3. PlayStation 5: ~50.000
