France: sales data for 2018 (Top 20 Software, Publishers)

Earlier this week, the S.E.L.L. (French equivalent of the ESZ) shared their report on video games sales in France in 2018. It provides us with some juicy sales data about the French video games market, with actual sales number for several Nintendo Switch games.

Here’s the various Nintendo Switch exclusives in the Top 20 Software:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (#4 All-Format, #3 Individual): 542 392 units sold during its second year, which is quite impressive;
  • Super Mario Party (#5 All-Format, #5 Individual): 380 305 units sold in less than 3 months;
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (#7 All-Format, #8 Individual): 335 615 units sold in less than a month;
  • Super Mario Odyssey (#8 All-Format, #6 Individual): 328 746 units sold during its second year;
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (#13 All-Format, #11 Individual): 269 450 units sold during its second year;
  • Splatoon 2 (#14 All-Format, #Individual): 262 023 units sold during its second year;
  • Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu (#16 All-Format, #13 Individual): 229 857 units sold in less than two months;
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (#18 All-Format, #16 Individual): 180 223 units sold;
  • 1-2-Switch (#20 All-Format, #17 Individual): 172 565 units sold during its second year.

There’s also a few multiplatform titles:

  • Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (#19 Individual): 161 557 units sold, and best-selling version of the game;
  • FIFA 19 (#20 Individual, #1 All-Format): 156 854 units sold on Nintendo Switch alone, and 1 353 358 units sold for all versions combined;

NB: sales data above is retail-only, and excluding Hardware bundles.

Thanks to the strong sales of its exclusives, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in France in 2018. In fact, it sold more games than both Electronic Arts and Take-Two combined, despite those two publishing the games ranked #1 and #2 of the All-Format chart.

France has always been one of Nintendo’s strongest market, and it looks like 2018 was no different!
