Famitsu: Tezuka wants to surpass New Super Mario Bros., work on something else than Mario

This week, Famitsu will have a 30-page article entirely dedicated to the Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary, which includes an interview with some key people from Nintendo (including Takashi Tezuka and Koji Kondo). Fortunately, some tidbits from the interview have already leaked, allowing us to learn what Takashi Tezuka would like to do in the future.

Famitsu Mario interviewWhen asked what’s in store for the Super Mario Bros. series in the future, Takashi Tezuka explained that Nintendo would keep making 2D and 3D Mario games (which is more or less the same thing that Miyamoto said in the Eurogamer interview). But there’s something he really wants to make: a game that could surpass New Super Mario Bros..

Unfortunately, Takashi Tezuka can’t really announce anything specific for now, but he explained that we may see this game within the next few years. Finally, he admitted that he would really like to work on something else than Mario for once: considering he’s been involved with the series from the very beginning, this isn’t all that surprising!
