Famitsu: best-sellers on Wii U, Top 100 for 2015

Recently, Wii U sales topped 3 million units in Japan: this would look like a good performance… if the Wii U didn’t come out in December 2012 in Japan. Famitsu notes that it took 162 weeks for Nintendo’s console to sell over 3 millions, and without Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, it would have taken even longer. Famitsu expect those two titles to just keep on selling in 2016.

It’s those two games that boosted Wii U sales during the holiday period, last year, and allowed the Wii U to reach 3 million units sold in early January. Here’s a graph from Famitsu, which shows sales from November 4th to January 2nd:

Despite selling so poorly, the Wii U does have several million-sellers. Here’s the list of best-sellers on Wii U in Japan:

• New Super Mario Bros. U: 1 252 654 units
• Mario Kart 8: 1 183 372 units
• Splatoon: 1 154 192 units
• Wii Party U: 819 715 units
• Super Mario Maker: 773 116 units
