Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 7, 2016. During Week 7, a total of 703 000 games were sold in Japan, which is 157.30% of Week 6 sales: a noticeable incrase, which is even more impressive if you only look at sales of new games.

During Week 7, sales of new games amounted to 356.49% of their sales during Week 6, due to the strong sales of new releases on PlayStation platforms. Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics had a decent launch with over 41 000 units sold, but it’s not a lot compared to the other new entries this week.

According to Dengeki, the sellthrough ratio for the game is about 80%, which is pretty good news. Sales topped 44 000 units, which is more or less the same as Mario & Sonic at the London Olympics (which sold 45 000 units at launch, and 267 000 LTD).

Mario Sonic OlympicsFinally, some early sellthrough data for this week’s releases. According to early reports, sellthrough ratio for Mega Man Legacy Collection (on Nintendo 3DS) is between 30-40% for the first day. As for Ginsei Shogi: Kyoutendo Toufuu Raijin (on Wii U), it had a pretty poor debut, but shipment is said to be quite small.
