During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation on September 14th/15th, Nintendo announced Another Code: Recollection for Nintendo Switch. Releasing on January 19th worldwide, this collection includes full remakes of the two games in the Another Code series:

  • Another Code (known as Trace Memory in North America), originally released on Nintendo DS
  • Another Code: R – A Journey to Lost Memories, originally released on Wii (only in Europe and Japan)

Here’s the reveal trailer (English and Japanese versions):

Described as “mystery novels you can wander through”, the two Another Code games are back on Nintendo Switch with some brand new elements.

The protagonist is Ashley, a teenage girl who is trying to find her parents. To do so, she needs to unravel the truth locked in her lost memories, and tackle various mysteries in unknown places.

Here’s the synopsis for both games:

Another Code

Ashley is a 13-year-old girl whose parents died when she was but a little child. One day, she receives a mysterious letter. The sender is none other than Richard, her father, who is supposed to be dead.

In order find out the truth behind that mysterious letter, Ashley heads to Blood Edward Island, where her father is supposedly waiting for her. There, she finds a huge mansion filled with mysteries and strange contraptions. She also meets D, a boy who has lost his memory…

Another Code: R – A Journey to Lost Memories

The story takes place two years after the events of Another Code. Ashley has grown up, and is now a 16-year old high school student. While visiting Lake Juliet and its breahtaking nature, she remembers visiting that same place with her mother, Sayoko, when she was a child.

During her visit, she meets a young runaway called Matthew. That encounters then leads her to uncover the truth behind an incident that happened in Lake Juliet several years ago.

In Another Code: Recollection, both games have been recreated in full 3D, with a map offering an even greater freedom of movement than in the original. Also, voice acting was added with both English and Japanese voices.

The game also features new puzzles, as well as optional hints and navigation assist for newcomers. Story-wise, Another Code: Recollection features new story content not found in the original games, along with events, and new music tracks.
